Bakamla Evacuates KM Alexindo 8 On Fire In Batam

BATAM - Bakamla evacuated the fire that occurred at KM Alexindo 8 with the Indonesian flag in Batuampar waters, Batam City, Riau Islands, using KN Sea Snake-405 and Catamaran 508.

Bakamla Youth Expert Public Relations Officer Captain Bakamla Yuhanes Antara said that initially the 508 Catamaran which was carrying out the Nusa II Guard Patrol around the Singapore Strait Waters received information from the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) that there had been a fire incident at KM Alexindo 8 at 14.30 WIB.

Based on the results of information provided by the captain of KM Alexindo 8 Joko Sampiri, he said, the fire occurred due to a short circuit in the kitchen which was immediately known by the ship's chef.

"Seeing this, the chef immediately shouted for fire and immediately immediately the entire crew carrying APAR. However, because the fire spread too quickly, the crew could not overcome the fire," said Yuhanes.

At the time of the incident, the head of the engine room (KKM) turned off the generator engine and closed the engine room door, then the entire crew left the ship.

"The ship immediately contacted the nearest ship, the Catamaran 508 belonging to Bakamla RI. Knowing this, Bakamla RI immediately went to the coordinates to evacuate the ship," he said.

The results of the evacuation showed that there were 15 victims with one person with minor burns and no casualties.

The blackout was carried out by the KN Laut-405 belonging to Bakamla RI, KRI Kabara-868 belonging to the Indonesian Navy, and TB Megamas Sky.

"In this safety patrol, the parties involved include Bakamla RI, TNI AL, Polri, and Basarnas," said Yuhanes.
