Defendant In Santri Obscenity Case In Sorong Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

SORONG - A defendant in the sexual abuse case of a number of students from Ponpes Salafiyah Syafi'iyah, in Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua Province, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

The follow-up hearing with the agenda of reading the verdict was held at the Sorong District Court (PN), West Papua, Wednesday, led by Chief Justice Francis Yohanis Babthista with member judges Bernadus Papendang and Rivai Radyid Tukuboya, and Katrina Dimara as prosecutors.

Chairman of the Panel of Judges Fransiskus explained that the defendant Ikhwanudin had been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing the crime of sexual abuse of children as regulated and threatened with crime in 82 Paragraph (1), Paragraph (2) and Paragraph (4) in conjunction with Article 76E of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Child Protection.

The judge's decision is the same as the prosecutor's demands. Previously, the Public Prosecutor demanded that the defendant Ikhwanudin be sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, a subsidiary of three months in prison reduced as long as the defendant is arrested and in temporary detention.

The legal adviser for the defendant Siti Umpain said that the defendant accepted the verdict of the panel of judges.

The defendant Ikhwanudin is the head of Ponpes Salafiyah Syafi'iyah who has the heart to have sex with his 3 students. The depraved act was revealed on the report of the first victim to the Sorong Police on August 28, 2023. Then two other victims followed to make a report one day later, namely August 29, 2023.
