JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian explained the work tasks he had carried out while serving as Acting (Plt) Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) for 19 days.

Tito was appointed as Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs from February 2 to 21, before President Joko Widodo inaugurated Hadi Tjahjanto as the definitive Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs starting today.

Tito admitted that his main task while filling the vacancy for the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs was to secure and launch the 2024 General Election. However, Tito claimed that he did not take over the role of the election organizer.

"All of our energy is focused on one, namely helping election organizers and election supervisors to secure and launch the election, in the sense of not taking over, but we are monitoring," Tito said after the handover of the position at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 21.

Tito said that he only coordinated the monitoring process for the implementation of elections with related ministries and institutions. Among them are 18 joint teams that monitor domestic elections and 5 joint teams for overseas elections.

"The nature is monitoring and providing assistance if the organizers ask for help. For example, there is a flood disaster in Demak, then as soon as possible contact the Acting Governor of Central Java to come down immediately to help the KPU and those affected," explained Tito.

In addition, Tito also coordinated the resolution of election security problems, one of which occurred in mountainous areas in Intan Jaya, Puncak Jaya, Intan Jaya, and Paniai in Papua. This problem resulted in the implementation of the election being postponed.

"This is what we provide support for, including areas where large reshuffled islands are assisted by friends from the Indonesian Navy. Then logistics in remote areas are also assisted by the TNI and Polri Regional Governments. This is what we can do to accelerate the implementation of the February 14 election," he explained.

When giving the final direction to Hadi, who is the new Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tito also conveyed a number of problems that had not been resolved by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"Some of the homework that has not been completed. Among them are regarding the BLBI problem, the BLBI task force. Then there is also the problem of solving cases of alleged human rights violations through a non-judictation mechanism," he added.
