RIAU - A great fire in Bandul Village, Tasik Putripuyu District, Meranti Islands Regency, Riau Province sold out dozens of building units and almost devoured the logistics of the 2024 General Election.

Chairman of the Meranti Islands General Election Commission (KPU), Abu Hamid, said the fire occurred not far from the Secretariat of the Tasikputri Puyu District Election Committee (PPK). Pioneer officers take quick steps to evacuate so that election logistics do not catch fire.

"Alhamdulillah, it is safe, the fire only reaches beside him (the secretariat office). The secretariat was not hit," he said, Tuesday, February 20, was confiscated by Antara.

When the fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, February 20, temporary election logistics were evacuated by officers to the parking lot of the nearest mosque yard. Until conditions are safe and no more fires are lit, logistics is then put back into the secretariat office.

Abu Hamid said, currently the plenary session for the 2024 General Election is in the sub-district stage. But because the officers were exhausted after working hard to evacuate logistics, the plenary process was temporarily suspended.

"Comrades (PPK, PPS and Panwaslu) who were on standby from last night were exhausted. Because since the morning they evacuated logistics. Even though I have confirmed to the PPK, the plenary session will resume tomorrow (Wednesday, February 21)," he said.

The head of Bandul Village, Employee Noma, revealed that the fire in the area close to the village port was first discovered at around 03.15 WIB. He admitted that he did not know where the hotspots appeared.

As a result of this incident, 20 buildings were burned down, consisting of seven swallow nest buildings and 13 local residents' houses. Luckily there were no casualties.

"But at that time the extinguishing process was not optimal, because the fire point was a bit far from the sea and the water was receding," he said.
