Egypt Establishes Logistics Center In Rafah, Facilitates Aid To Gaza

Egypt on Saturday (17/2) announced that it was starting to build a logistics center in Rafah to facilitate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which is being attacked and occupied by Israel.

The Governor of North Sinai in Egypt, Major General Muhammad Abdulfadil, said that the logistics center would be built in the border city, including the Rafah border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

Abdulfadil said the Egyptian army had started building the logistics center in Al-Arish to facilitate the work of the Red Crescent and reduce congestion in the area and on highways.

He said the logistics center would have truck parking lots, safe warehouses, administrative offices, accommodation for drivers, as well as various facilities such as water and electricity.

Assistance to Gaza reached Sinai by land, sea and air, and efforts are underway to transport aid to the region by truck from Al-Arish Port and Al-Arish International Airport, Abdulfadil said.

Protection For Palestinian Refugees In Rafah

Rafah, on the southern Gaza border, was inhabited by 280 thousand Palestinians before Israel began attacking the Gaza Strip.

The attack on October 7, 2023, left 1.9 million people in Gaza, which has a population of about 2.3 million people, displaced.

The majority of Palestinian refugees seek refuge in Rafah, which Israel says is "safe."

With the entry of residents from the northern region, the Rafah population increased to more than 1.4 million people, four times more than the original number.

Palestinians seeking refuge in Rafah are struggling to survive in emergency tents due to the lack of proper housing.

Israeli forces often target Rafah with airstrikes. There are concerns that if Israel launches a ground attack on the Rafah, there will be no safe place for civilians in Gaza.

On February 9, Netanyahu instructed the army and security forces to "prepare plans for an attack on the Rafah."
