Silent Majority 2024 Election Called From Grass Roots

JAKARTA The vote acquisition of candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka which reached the range of 57-59 percent in the quick calculation of several survey institutions is said to be due to the influence of silent majority in the 2024 election.

The results of several survey institutions showed candidate pair 02, Prabowo-Gibran won votes in the range of 57-59 percent, candidate pair 01 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar with a range of 23-25 percent and candidate pair 03 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD with a range of 16-17 percent.

According to the Lecturer of Communication Science, FISIP Universitas Brawijaya, Verdy Firmantoro, this silent majority is a person who chooses to be passive in public debate but can make a lot of candidate pairs.

This is what is called silent majority, where grass root people, of course they don't really color public debate much, but they become active voters, and really come to TPS to voice their aspirations. That seems to be the cause of gaining points for candidate pair 02," he explained, Sunday, February 18.

He considered that this silent majority came from grassroots or grassroots who received social assistance, people who felt the touch of welfare at the lower level. In addition, the typology of the Indonesian people is actually not ready if there is a liberal democratic fight.

"This means that there are open fights, attacking each other, having different views, giving each other sentiment that the Indonesian people don't really, in fact, the people who are given negative sentiments actually get positive reflections," said Verdy.

He suspected that negative sentiment to the 02 camp resulted in a voice to the public, because the community felt sorry or sorry. On the other hand, critical voices that have examined cases at the Constitutional Court (MK) and others, are relatively considered as elite issues that are familiar with critical voices and rational considerations and are not touched by the lower levels of society or grassroots.

Verdy also explained that the silent phenomenon of majority is getting bigger because of the contemporary politics carried out by candidate pair 02 with celebrities and influencers who are able to move young people to enjoy politics as if they are part of something entertaining.

"That's what finally makes them interested in gemoy figures, more entertaining ways, that's what is contested this time enough to prove that it has an electoral impact on the movement of young people in voting," he said.
