Minister Of Health: Referral Hospitals Must Be Empures In Early Detection Of Catatropic Diseases

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that handling catalyst diseases, such as stroke, heart, kidney, and cancer must be a priority for referral hospital services (RS).

Minister of Health Budi hopes that more referral hospital patients will leave through the front door in a recovered condition rather than having to exit through the back door in a dead condition.

"I'm a minister for a short time. Yes, I'm focused on reducing so that fewer people come out of the back. If possible, all of them come out from the front. Come in from the front, come out from the front," said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi.

As is known, priority referral services are referral facilities for catastrophic diseases or diseases that are life-threatening and require large medical expenses as well as the old healing process.

Given the important task of priority referral services, the Minister of Health asked referral hospitals not only to handle various catalyst diseases.

However, the hospital must also have the ability to master the knowledge of early detection of catatropic diseases to all hospitals at the district/city level.

One of the hospitals that was asked to be the supervisor was the Al Ihsan Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

Al Ihsan Hospital has transformed the health system on referral services. This transformation includes health financing systems, health technology, and priority referral health services specifically for cancer services, heart, stroke, urology, and nephrology (uro-nephrology).

"So, the task of Al Ihsan Hospital is to manage. Not only smart yourself, but also all regencies/cities in West Java have good hospitals."

"If possible, only a few have been referred to the Al Ihsan Hospital. The fewer are referred, the better is Al Ihsan Hospital," said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi when inaugurating the priority referral service at Al Ihsan Hospital on Friday, February 16, 2024.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi further reminded that early detection is very important so that the burden of priority referral services does not get heavier. Then, patients can be handled earlier before the disease condition worsens.

"Because the cancer is one cure, namely early detection, 80 percent recovered. If the detection is late, 80 percent die," said Budi Gunadi.

The Ministry of Health has set 10 priority health services that are of concern in the transformation of referral services.

The ten priority health services are cancer, heart, stroke, kidney, maternal health, respiration TB, diabetes mellitus, gastrohepatology, emerging infection disease, and mental health.
