Involved In Corruption, Migrant Watch Invites KPK To Guard PMI Placement To The Middle East
Migrant Watch Executive Director, Aznil Tan (IST)

JAKARTA - Migrant Watch has officially submitted a request to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to oversee the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to the Middle East Region.

Migrant Watch Executive Director Aznil Tan said that the placement of PMIs to the Middle East is often hampered by government officials. According to Aznil, apart from disrupting human rights, the disturbance is allegedly related to allegations of corruption in the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) agency.

"Asking the KPK to supervise and oversee the implementation of the One Canal Placement System (SPSK) to Saudi Arabia so that it can be carried out legally, honestly and without collusion practices," said Aznil in Jakarta, Friday, February 16.

Previously informed, the solidarity action of migrant workers in August 2023 paid off, President Jokowi also stated that he had agreed to reassess PMI placement in the middle east, although previously there was an agreement to use the One Canal Placement System (SPSK) without an association monopoly.

But it is very unfortunate, even though there has been an agreement, the sudden closure of the placement of PMIs in Saudi Arabia by the Ministry of Manpower in mid-January 2024 has disappointed many parties.

According to Aznil, the reason for the closure is illogical and has the potential to increase the practice of illegal placement. Migrant Watch also highlighted allegations of illegal practices in the placement of PMIs carried out by unscrupulous Ministry of Manpower.

Migrant Watch also urged the KPK to immediately take firm action against the alleged "Monopoly" game carried out by individuals involved in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the middle east, in order to maintain the integrity and security of the placement of PMI abroad.

"We really hope that the KPK will immediately process our report and conduct an investigation into the individuals who are playing behind this, in order to maintain the integrity and security of the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) abroad," said Aznil.

With this application, it is hoped that the placement of PMIs in the Middle East Region can be carried out in a transparent, fair and legal manner, and avoid corrupt and collusion practices that harm migrant workers.
