JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will increase the number of CCTVs in detention centers (rutan) to prevent blind spots or places that are not monitored. This step is taken so that the practice of illegal levies (extortion) does not repeat itself.
Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said the addition of this CCTV would be accompanied by frequent inspections.
"To ensure the creation of services to visitors to the KPK Detention Center can be carried out properly and optimally, the KPK also routinely conducts inspections and adds to the installation of CCTV so that there are no blind spots," said Ali Fikri to reporters in a written statement, Friday, February 16.
Not only that, Ali said, there were other anticipatory steps taken, including in the management of detention centers. Among them is to rotate employees to other work units.
"This is also to ensure that these employees continue to carry out their duties and obligations as KPK personnel," he said.
Then, coordination was also carried out by the anti-corruption commission with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The goal, said Ali, is to strengthen personnel support and strengthen the technical implementation of prison operations.
"This is a manifestation of the KPK's commitment to continue to improve in strengthening institutional integrity," said Ali.
As previously reported, the KPK Supervisory Board imposed severe sanctions on 78 employees involved in illegal levies. They were asked to apologize directly and openly.
Systematic, said the KPK Council, they must read it in front of the Secretary General of the KPK who is a staffing officer. Later, the statement will be recorded in audio and visual channels and broadcast on channels belonging to the anti-corruption commission.
The KPK Council believes this method can provide a deterrent effect, especially for other employees. Meanwhile, 12 other employees out of a total of 90 employees' fate were handed over to the Secretary General of the KPK for further investigation.
