KPU Website Faces Hundreds Of Millions Of Attacks

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) received hundreds of millions of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks on its website.

"There are hundreds of millions of DoS attacks, I'm not saying tens, not units, but hundreds of millions of attacks on the KPU website are extraordinary," said KPU member Betty Epsilon Idroos at the KPU office, Jakarta, Wednesday, February 14, as reported by Antara.

DoS is a type of attack carried out by flooding network traffic on applications on a server, system or website. Generally, this attack is carried out to make server traffic run with a heavy load until it can no longer accommodate connections from other users, aka overload.

In fact, he continued, the KPU website contains information and data for the 2024 Election. Meanwhile, the election results are at infopemilu.kpu.go.id.

"Almost all sites owned by the KPU were attacked and indeed the kpu.go.id website was quite an attack on the website," he said.

According to him, this condition was immediately handled by the KPU Cyber Security Task Force. He said that after casting his vote in the morning, he immediately checked the problem.

"Thank God, today recovery has started for the kpu.go.id website. So, hopefully everything is still under control to be repaired by the KPU," concluded Betty.

The 2024 elections include the election of the president and vice president, members of the DPR RI, members of the DPD RI, members of the provincial DPRD, as well as members of the district/city DPRD with a national level permanent voter list (DPT) of 204,807,222 voters.

The 2024 elections will be participated by 18 national political parties, namely (according to serial number) National Awakening Party (PKB), Gerindra Party, PDI Perjuangan, Golkar Party, NasDem Party, Labor Party and Gelora Indonesia Party.

Next, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the Archipelago Awakening Party (PKN), the Hanura Party, the Garuda Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Democratic Party, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), the Perindo Party, the Development Association (PPP), and the Ummat Party.

Apart from that, there are six local political parties as participants, namely the Nanggroe Aceh Party, the Atjeh Beusaboh Tha'at and Taqwa Generation Party, the Darul Aceh Party, the Aceh Party, the Aceh Prosperous Adil Party, and the Aceh People's Independent Solidity Party.

Meanwhile, three pairs participated in the presidential and vice presidential elections, namely Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar as serial number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka serial number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. serial number 3.

In accordance with KPU Regulation Number 3 of 2022, the national vote recapitulation for the 2024 Election is scheduled to take place from February 15 to March 20 2024.
