Ready To Help West Papua KPU Face Election Lawsuit, Attorney General's Office Deploys 10 State Prosecutors

PAPUA - The Prosecutor's Office has prepared 10 state attorneys who will accompany the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Papua if they face an election lawsuit.

"We have prepared ten prosecutors to accompany the KPU," said Head of the West Papua High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) Harli Siregar in Manokwari, West Papua, Tuesday, February 13.

Harli has also instructed the ranks of the District Attorney in seven districts throughout West Papua to prepare state attorneys for their respective KPUs.

The state attorney first followed technical guidance so that the implementation of the task of providing maximum assistance.

"In principle, the Prosecutor's Office always supports the KPU if there is a lawsuit against the implementation of the election," he said.

In addition, he said, the West Papua Prosecutor's Office together with the provincial-level KPU and Bawaslu have signed an integrity pact to ensure the quality of managing the budget for the election implementation grant.

The integrity pact must be followed up by the District Attorney with KPU and Bawaslu in every district throughout West Papua so that abuse of election funds can be anticipated.

"Corruption crimes usually appear recently, so there needs to be cooperation so that it can be prevented," said Harli.

According to him, the grant budget disbursed by provincial and district governments throughout West Papua to support the implementation of the 2024 General Election is approximately IDR 500 billion.

The use of election grant funds is mandatory to provide accurate accountability reports according to activity items, because the report will be audited by the relevant institutions.

"Recipients of election grant funds, both sourced from the APBN and APBD, must provide reports," he said.
