The chairman of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of North Sumatra, Baskami Ginting, died after collapsing in his office.

"Yes, that's right, at 14.30 he fainted and was rushed to the hospital," said Deputy Chairperson of the PDI-P DPD, Sumuf Aswan Jaya, in Medan, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 7.

Aswan explained that the condition of the chairman of the Baskami Ginting DPRD before the incident was still as usual, there was no sign of experiencing significant illness.

"Even though at 13.15 I was still communicating via telephone with him and we were still joking, reportedly he suddenly dropped and received the sad news," said Aswan.

According to information obtained, Baskami Ginting died after 64 years.

Baskami Ginting was born December 14, 1959, a politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) who served as Chairman of the North Sumatra DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.

In 2010, Baskami Ginting also ran as a candidate for deputy mayor of Binjai accompanying Zefri Januar Pribadi as a candidate for mayor. The pair advanced along with eight other pairs of candidates to compete for 173,662 votes.

The pair Zefri Januar Pribadi - Baskami Ginting, supported by PDIP and the Hanura Party, appeared as the winner of the second position with 22,209 votes or 22.88 percent of the voters' valid votes.
