Heavy Rain, Cliffs In Garut Landslides As A Result Of Access To Citizens' Roads Break Up

Due to high rainfall, cliffs as high as 50 meters in the Cipantramat hills area, Cikajang District, Garut Regency, West Java experienced landslides, last Monday.

This disaster resulted in severe damage to hectares of rice fields including the environmental access of residents of Banjarwangi District to Cikajang.

This incident was also caught on amateur video by local residents showing mud avalanches sweeping trees and rice milling buildings belonging to local residents.

"Luckily, no casualties or houses were severely damaged. Even so, there are five houses that have the potential to be threatened with further landslides around the scene," explained the Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of the Garut Regency BPBD, Daris Hilman, Tuesday, February 6.

Daris, one of the affected residents, said that he had to evacuate because his house was prone to further landslides.

"Actually, the location of the landslide is quite far from residential areas, but this is in anticipation of further landslides that threaten the safety of residents," said Daris.

The local government also appealed to local residents to be more alert to further disasters.
