JEMBER - The body of Indonesian migrant worker (PMI) Windi Nur Fadila (18) who is suspected of being a victim of murder in Malaysia was finally buried in a public cemetery in Jenggawah Village, Jember Regency, East Java.

"The PMI body from Jember, which was the victim of the murder, has been returned to the funeral home and immediately buried at the TPU in the vicinity of the funeral home on Sunday (4/2)," said Head of the Jember Manpower Service (Disnaker) Suprihandoko as reported by ANTARA, Monday, February 5.

According to him, his body arrived at Juanda Airport in Surabaya on Sunday (4/2) at 13.15 WIB, then the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) facilitated the return of the body from Surabaya to the funeral home in Jenggawah Village, Jenggawah District, Jember Regency.

"The body was then handed over to the family represented by the victim's older brother, witnessed by the Camat and Muspika, Jenggawah District," he said.

Based on information from the family, he continued, the late Windi had worked in Malaysia for approximately eight months as a cleaning service through non-procedural or illegal channels.

"We have repeatedly appealed to Jember residents who want to work abroad to use the procedure, so that when there is a problem, the government can help overcome it," he said.

Regarding the perpetrator of the murder, Suprihandoko said that his party received news that the victim Windi was allegedly killed by a male friend with the initials MJ who is also a resident of Jenggawah Village/District, Jember Regency.

"The perpetrator also reportedly died because he fought and endangered officers when he was arrested by the Malaysian police, but we have not received any information on when the perpetrator's body was returned to Jember," he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Migrant Care for Jember, Bambang Teguh Karyanto, said that the government must be present in the issue of Indonesian migrant workers experiencing problems abroad, even though the PMI has left abroad without complying with the correct procedures.

"The rights of victims such as salaries and others must be fulfilled in accordance with the provisions, so the government must ensure that all rights are given to their heirs," he said.
