KPU Follows Up On 198 Voter Double Data Reports In New York

JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has followed up on reports from the advocacy organization of Migrant Care migrant workers regarding the findings of 198 doubles of Indonesian citizen data (WNI) in New York which will vote in the 2024 General Election.

According to KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari, the dual voter data is mostly due to differences in the writing of names, for example Ratna Sari and Ratnasari or Dewi with Dewy, even though their identity cards are the same.

"This is what causes us to find 198 names (doubles). So, (if there is) the same identity, we will cross out one of them," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 5.

She also said that the case of voter double data occurred because a number of Indonesian citizens changed their last name to their husband's last name.

He explained that actually in the process of drafting and updating voter data, the KPU has used three analytical models to detect double data. The three analytical models were carried out by checking double identities at related locuss, checking voters' identities in New York with Indonesian citizens around the world, and checking voters' identities abroad and within the country.

"So, (we) have (used) three dual analysis models, but the so-called analysis can also decline," he said.

Regarding the allocation of 198 dual ballots, he said that the New York Foreign Election Committee (PPLN) decided not to send the ballots to Indonesian citizens.

The ballot can be used to serve transfer voters, either from other countries to New York or other states, or voters managed by other PPLNs entering the New York area, or domestic voters entering New York," said Hasyim.

"In addition, the ballot can also be used by voters who have met the requirements to vote but their names have not been included in the Permanent Voter List (DPT), but rather the Special Voter List (DPK)," he said.

Based on PPLN New York data, the number of Indonesian citizens included in the DPT Overseas for the 2024 General Election reached 11,141 people.

Indonesian citizens abroad have voted for two ballots to elect a presidential-vice presidential pair and members of the DPR.
