UNRWA: Without Clean Water, More Gazans Have Difficulty Surviving

JAKARTA - The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned that more Palestinians in the Gaza Strip will find it difficult to survive due to lack of clean water and disease spread.

"Our team has sent nearly 20,000,000 liters of water to the people in Gaza," UNRWA said via X as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, February 5.

However, the amount of clean water distributed was not enough to meet the needs of Gazans.

The UN agency highlighted the limited access that Gazans have for clean water, due to the ongoing deadly attacks by Israeli forces.

"Water is life and Gaza is running out of water. Access to clean water and sanitation is very limited in the midst of relentless bombings," UNRWA said.

UNRWA warned of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which is exacerbated by limited aid deliveries and damage to infrastructure, "setting thousands of people vulnerable to the risk of contracting disease."

"Without clean water, more people will die from deficiencies (liquids) and disease. The conditions are inhumane. People struggle to survive without any basic necessities," UNRWA said.

As the largest humanitarian organization in the Gaza Strip, UNRWA said it would do anything to continue the much-needed work to support the people in Gaza.

Israel has launched a deadly attack on Gaza following the Palestinian Hamas group's attack on October 7, 2023.

Israeli attacks killed 27,365 Palestinians and injured 66,630 others, while nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have died in Hamas attacks.

Israeli attacks also left 85 percent of Gaza's population displaced amid food shortages, clean water, and medicines, while 60 percent of infrastructure in the enclave has been damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.
