When Rain Intensity Is High, These Are Tips From PLN To Be Safe

JAKARTA - The intensity of high rain with a long duration of time hit Jakarta and its surroundings in recent weeks. PLN firmly appealed to the public to remain vigilant and take the necessary security measures.

If the puddle starts to rise, immediately remove the electronic equipment that is still stuck in the socket and increase it to a higher place. Then turn off the electricity from kWh meter to prevent the danger of electricity because water is an electric conductor.

The public can contact PLN through the PLN Mobile application, Contact Center 123, or come directly to the nearest regional office to ask officers to come when the water has entered the house.

Lasiran, General Manager of PLN Jakarta Distribution Main Unit, emphasized that the safety of the human soul is a top priority. "When heavy rains and floods occur, PLN is forced to turn off temporary electricity to prevent the danger of being electrocuted. Conditions that force blackouts include flooding in residents' homes, flooded PLN assets, or flooded with residents' houses and PLN assets," said Lasiran.

After the water recedes, the public is advised to clean houses and electronic equipment, including electrical installations, to dry. PLN will normalize electricity after the installation of electricity is safe and dry. The process of re-igning electricity after the flood will involve signing the minutes witnessed by the Head of RT/RW or local community leaders.

Lasiran also reminded the public not to take shelter near electrical installations, such as electric poles, electric substations, or street lights, when it rains to avoid potential hazards.

"The use of personal protective equipment, such as water-proof boots, is recommended when crossing puddles to avoid the risk of being hit by broken glass, nails, bacteria, or leaking electricity," Lasiran suggested.

PLN also urges the public to report if they find PLN poles and power lines that endanger or use illegal electricity directly from the poles, which could potentially endanger the community.

"PLN routinely conducts inspections of poles and cables to ensure the distribution of electrical energy to the community remains in normal and safe conditions," concluded Lasiran.
