JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah reminded that termination of employment (PHK) for employees is the company's last resort when facing problems.
"What the ministry (Ministry of Manpower, ed) is doing is trying to find that layoffs are the last resort," said Ida when met in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, Antara, Wednesday, January 31.
Ida conveyed this when responding to the rampant cases of layoffs. One of them was carried out by a South Korean tire factory, PT Hung-A Indonesia in the Hyundai Cikarang area.
According to Ida, employee pruning was carried out after the company tried to make various efforts to solve the problem, but still did not find a solution. Ida also reminded that layoffs must be carried out by following the applicable rules.
"If it turns out to be unavoidable, then layoffs must comply with the provisions of the ministry's regulations, including an agreement," said Ida.
The Director General of Industrial Relations and Employment Social Security (Dirjen PHI JSK) of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) Indah Anggoro Putri asked the local Manpower Service (Disnaker) to provide assistance to workers affected by layoffs.
Indah also said that the Ministry of Manpower is ready to assist and monitor the mentoring process carried out by the Manpower Office.
"We continue to assist labor agencies, such as layoffs in Bekasi which are handled by the Manpower Office, but we are also monitoring what the Ministry of Manpower thinks can do," said Indah.
The Bekasi Regency Government, West Java accompanied workers affected by layoffs by PT Hung-A Indonesia in the Hyundai Cikarang area as an effort to fulfill employee rights.
Bekasi Regent Dani Ramdan said the Bekasi Regency Government had received a report regarding the layoffs carried out by the South Korean tire factory, and immediately instructed the ranks of the Manpower Service to accompany employees who were victims of layoffs.
Head of the Bekasi Regency Manpower Office, Edi Rochyadi, said that 1,170 employees of PT Hung-A Indonesia were laid off based on incoming reports.
According to a report received by the Bekasi District Manpower Office, the layoffs were carried out because PT Hung-A Indonesia would close the company because there were no orders from buyers.
