4 Hospital Officers In Pematang Siantar, Suspect In Bathing The Body Of A Woman With The Status Of A City Detainee

MEDAN - Four male health workers at Djasamen Saragih Regional Hospital, Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra are under the status of city prisoners. The four of them were named suspects for religious blasphemy because they had washed the body of a woman who is not his mahram.

The police have transferred this case to the Pematang Siantar District Attorney. The head of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office, Sumanggar Siagian, said that the four suspects had the status of city prisoners.

"Yes, we will carry out city arrest. The reason is that there was a request from the defendant's family and the hospital", said Sumanggar, Wednesday, February 24.

Another consideration is because the four of them are still badly needed to wash the bodies of COVID-19 patients.

"The health workers are really needed by RSUD Djasmen Saragih. Because they are specifically for bathing the body", he said.

This case started with Fauzi Munthe, a resident of Serbelawan, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra. He reported to the police because he did not accept his wife, Zakiah (50), who died at the Djasamen Saragih Regional Hospital, Sunday, September 20, 2020, being bathed by 4 male hospital employees.

Head of The Criminal Investigator Siantar Police, AKP Edi Sukamto said that this case has been submitted to the AGO.

"It has been transferred to the prosecutor's office", said Edi to reporters.

The four nurses are DAAY, ESPS, RS, and REP, subject to Article 156 letter a junto Article 55 paragraph 1 concerning Blasphemy with the threat of a sentence of 5 years in prison.
