Mahfud Withdraws From Cabinet, Palace Ensures The Function Of Coordinating Ministry For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Continues

JAKARTA - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana hopes that the main tasks and functions of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Human Rights (Kemenko Polhukam) will run properly.

He said this was following Mahfud MD's decision to resign from his position as Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Human Rights (Menko Polhukam). Mahfud will submit the resignation letter directly to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"We hope that there will be no problems related to the resignation of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. The process of implementing the government, the functions of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs will continue to run well," said Ari at the Ministry of State Secretariat Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 31, which was confiscated by Antara.

Ari explained, after the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md submitted his resignation letter directly to President Jokowi, the next mechanism was that the President gave approval through Presidential Decree (Keppres) regarding Mahfud's dismissal from his position.

The next President will make a decision regarding the position of substitute Mahfud, be it the Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs or the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

While waiting for the President's direction, Ari emphasized that the administration of the government and the functions carried out by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs will continue as usual.

When asked about the implementation of the 2024 General Election, Ari believed that Indonesia's election implementation system was good and had its reliability tested.

"I am sure that with the system that we have well tested, the reliability has been tested through the institutions for holding elections, then in government institutions we also know that it is going well," said Ari.

As reported, the candidate for vice president number 3 Mahfud Md will directly submit his resignation letter as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to President Joko Widodo.

"I will report, I am finished," said Mahfud in Lampung, Wednesday.

In a live broadcast monitored online from Jakarta, Mahfud said that he would submit his resignation letter as soon as he got a schedule to meet with President Jokowi. Mahfud estimates that his resignation letter will be submitted on Thursday, February 1.

"And this letter will be submitted as soon as I get a schedule to meet with the President (Jokowi), but I will continue to bring it because this letter was once I was given the direct time I submitted this letter," said Mahfud.
