Police Asked To Firmly Complete Criminal Cases By Medan Bawaslu-KPU Persons

MEDAN - A legal expert from the University of North Sumatra (USU) Edi Yunara said, there must be firmness in resolving the alleged extortion case committed by Medan Bawaslu elements and Padangsidempuan KPU.

"Law enforcement must be firm and not favoritism," said Edi, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 29.

The Head of the USU Faculty of Law Laboratory continued, by acting in accordance with applicable regulations, law enforcers who in this case the police can maintain public trust.

According to Edi, public trust is very important because it can determine whether or not the 2024 election process will run smoothly in North Sumatra.

"In addition, law enforcement also provides an example that everyone who does the same thing will get a commensurate sanction," said the man who earned his bachelor's degree to his doctoral degree at USU.

In North Sumatra, there were two cases of alleged extortion by elements of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Medan and the Padangsidempuan General Election Commission (KPU) to candidates for legislative members.

These cases were revealed after the North Sumatra Police Illegal Charge Sweeping Team (Saber Pungli) conducted a hand arrest operation (OTT).

A member of the Medan City Bawaslu with the initials AH (32), who is the Coordinator of the Public and Public Participation Prevention and Participation Division, was caught OTT by the Operational Team (Opsnal) of the North Sumatra Police Saber Extortion Group on November 14, 2023 at a hotel in Medan City.

Apart from AH, two men with the initials IG (25) and FH (29) were also arrested. They were arrested when they received money on suspicion of extortion against one of the legislative candidates who was allegedly made difficult when taking care of the required documents.

Then, on Saturday (27/1), the Saber Extortion Team of the North Sumatra Police arrested Padangsidempuan KPU personnel with a similar suspicion, namely extortion.

The North Sumatra Regional Police stated that the person with the initials PL was a member of the Padangsidempuan KPU Commissioner. The evidence from the OTT is money worth tens of millions of rupiah.
