Political Year, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Asks Ulama To Keep Community Unity

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin invites scholars to continue to maintain the unity of the people and nation in the midst of the election, by participating in preventing conflicts due to differences in political choices.

This was conveyed by the Vice President during a meeting with scholars throughout Pati, at the Maslakul Huda Islamic Boarding School, Kajen, Margoyoso, Pati, Central Java, last Saturday, as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, January 28.

"Let's take care of the people, don't let the people fight because of different choices. This is so that the ulama take care of us. Keep it not only in the sense of the people, but in the sense of the Indonesian nation, because unity is our capital," said the Vice President.

He said that if there was a conflict due to differences in choice in the election, the Indonesian nation would experience a setback.

The vice president also appreciated the harmony that has occurred among the current ulama, even though they have various political choices. According to him, the unity of ulama is important as the key to guarding democracy.

"I was very happy when I was told that the kiai here, although different, did not have a dispute between them about the election choice. I think that's the most important thing," he said.

On that occasion, the Vice President also emphasized the importance of responding to changes in the times with the appropriate ijtihad.

"There is such a thing as a new problem, which was not there in the past. The problems used to be different from now, although the problems are the same, the models have changed, so they need a new ijtihad," he said.

Meanwhile, in the economic sector, the Vice President conveyed to the scholars the importance of developing the sharia economy.

He explained that the government has so far formed the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KNEKS) and the Regional Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance (KDEKS) in the development of the sharia economy.
