The use of green energy with Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is increasingly in demand by PLN customers of the Greater Jakarta Distribution Main Unit. In 2023, the growth was even more massive. The total use of REC reached 340.45 Mega Watts hour (MWh) with an increase of 148 percent compared to the realization in 2022 of 137.43 MWh.

REC is a form of PLN's service to customers that makes it easier for customers to gain recognition for the transparent, accountable, and internationally recognized use of New Renewable Energy (EBT). Each REC certificate proves that electricity per megawatt-hour (MWh) used by customers comes from EBT or non-focal generators.

General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Lasiran explained that the form of PLN's REC service is in line with PT PLN (Persero)'s strategy in running a sustainable business through the Implementation of ESG in the decarbonization program, especially in the industrial and business sectors.

At the end of 2022, REC is only owned by 56 customers at PLN UID Jakarta Raya. However, the rapid increase occurred in 2023 where until the end of 2023, as many as 657 PLN UID Jakarta Raya customers had used the PLN REC.

Lasiran said that this energy transition will continue to develop in line with people's concern for environmental sustainability for the future.

PLN as a leader in the accelerated use of new and renewable energy will support the competitiveness of the national industry by encouraging the use of clean energy as a base for electricity, said Lasiran.

Lasiran further explained that PLN UID Jakarta Raya fully supports the form of PLN's REC services to support Net Zero Emission 2060.

"We will continue to improve PLN's REC services for 2024 and beyond. Increasing REC purchasing power is a driving force for PLN to increase the capacity of EBT generators in providing green energy for future generations," concluded Lasiran.
