JAKARTA - An Indonesian citizen (WNI) with the initials SAP who passed the residence permit (overstay) died at Sano Ishikai Hospital, Tochigi, Thursday (25/1) in the morning due to being infected with COVID-19.

Reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 25, the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi explained, from temporary information from the police, the Indonesian citizen with the initials 27 years old came from Central Java.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo coordinated with the Sano Regional Police, Tochigi Prefecture, regarding the case.

The deceased is known to be undergoing a police investigation process since November 2023 over the case of driving an illegal vehicle and immigration violations and serving detention in Sano Prison.

The body of the late SAP is currently still at Sano Ishikai Hospital.

Ambassador Heri said his party had contacted the deceased's family in Indonesia to inform the sad news, including discussing the family's decision to bury the body.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has also asked for an explanation from the Sano Police regarding the chronology of the illness suffered by SAP and the treatment steps that have been taken.
