ASN Allegedly Violated Election Law Due To Being MC During Gibran's Campaign To Kupang City

KUPANG - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province, reported that during the implementation of the open campaign for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections, his party found a case of election violations committed by a state civil servant (ASN) from Kupang Regency. "One case of election violation was found during the Gibran campaign in Kupang City at the end of December 2023. The ASN became the MC in this activity," said Kupang City KPU chairman Yunior Adi Nange in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Thursday, January 25. The case has been handled by examining three witnesses, both from the Kupang Regency Government, as well as witnesses during the Gibran campaign in Kupang City. The Master Of Ceremony (MC) named Edno Taopon is an ASN who works in one of the government offices. "The person concerned has also admitted that he became an MC at that time when we asked for his statement," he said. After receiving information from Edno and two other witnesses, his party then submitted the results of the Bawaslu study to the ASN Commission in Kupang Regency. He said this because the case against Edno was not related to the Election Law related to Bawaslu, so all sanctions became the responsibility of the local district government. "We have sent the results of the study to the ASN Commission and they will handle it later," he said. With incidents like this, ASN is not expected to be involved in various political campaign activities carried out during the campaign period or be actively involved in supporting one of the candidate pairs or candidates in Kupang City.
