Indicator Researcher: 33 Percent Of The Public Are Not Satisfied With Police Performance In Investigating Firli's Extortion Case To SYL

JAKARTA - Main researcher of Indonesian Political Indicators Burhanuddin Muhtadi reminded the National Police that 33 percent of the public were dissatisfied with the police's performance in investigating the alleged extortion case involving former KPK chairman Firli Bahuri.

"So far, those who say they are satisfied or dissatisfied with the police's performance in investigating Firli's case, who are satisfied with about 60 percent, are not satisfied with a significant amount of around 33 percent. This means that this is not a small number," said Burhanuddin in an online release of the national survey findings in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 23, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, the public doubts the performance of the National Police in handling Firli's case, so it is necessary to open up the ranks of the police regarding what they have got and do.

"The National Police need to explain more about what has been done, how clear is the evidence they collect so that public doubts can be dismissed," he said.

In this survey, he continued, his party checked the knowledge of respondents regarding the case being handled by the National Police, one of which was the extortion case by former KPK Chairman Filri Bahuri against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

A similar survey was also asked in the period 27 October-1 November 2023 as many as 25.1 percent of respondents knew, 74.9 percent did not know. Meanwhile, the survey from 23 November to 1 December 2023, 28.5 percent knew, and 71.5 percent did not know.

The survey also asked whether respondents believed there was extortion by Firli Bahuri, which was 70.6 percent confidence and 17.3 percent did not believe it.

Of the number of respondents who believed in the case, said Burhanuddin, it was also asked how satisfied the public was with the police's performance in investigating the Firli Bahuri case. As many as 61 percent were satisfied, 33 percent were dissatisfied.

Responding to the survey results, Professor of the Faculty of Law, Jenderal Sudirman University, Prof. Hibnu Nugroho reminded the public regarding the declining public trust in the Police.

According to him, the performance of the National Police in handling monumental cases such as the Firli Bahuri case will be of concern and public record to increase trust in these law enforcement institutions.

Now the police are being sued by Firli again through a pretrial application. According to him, if this case is not immediately escalated to the stage of evidence at the prosecutor's office, it will be a scourge for the Police.

"Now we want to be pretrial again. This means that the acceleration of handling cases with monumental cases of the KPK chairman will not immediately go up to the prosecutor's legal institution, but back again, Firli even filed a pretrial again, meaning that if it reaches the pretrial, this is a big scourge for the Police," he said.

Hibnu hopes that the National Police will immediately resolve the Firli Bahuri case so that law enforcement performance will be better in the eyes of the public.

The national findings survey used the multistage random sampling method, involving a base sample of 1,200 people from all provinces who were proportionally distributed, then oversampled in 13 provinces (Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Bali, NTT, North Sulawesi and South Sulawesi. So that the total sample is 4,560 respondents.

Assuming a stratified random sampling method, the base sample size of 4,560 respondents had a margin of error of around 2.9 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
