Election Crime Trial, Prospective DPRD Purworejo Charged With Campaign Involving Minors

JATENG - Prospective member of the Purworejo DPRD, Muhammad Abdullah, was tried for alleged violations of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections. The trial was held at the Purworejo District Court, Tuesday, January 23.

Assistant for Intelligence at the Central Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) Sunarwa said the inaugural trial scheduled the reading of the indictment by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Purworejo Kejari.

"The trial was led by Chief Justice Agus Supriyono," he said in a press release, Tuesday, January 23, which was confiscated by Antara.

In his indictment, he said, the prosecutor said that the Nasdem Party politician had carried out a campaign involving minors.

The campaign was carried out by the defendant by distributing videos through social media.

On this charge, the defendant was given the opportunity to file an exception.

Sunarwa said that the election criminal case must be resolved within seven working days after being delegated by the Public Prosecutor (JPU).

In addition, he continued, the defendant Muhammad Abdullah, in this criminal case was not detained because the sentence was less than one year in prison.

Previously, a candidate for member of the Purworejo Regency DPRD Muhammad Abdullah was named a suspect in an election criminal case by the Purworejo Integrated Law Enforcement Center.

Abdullah is suspected of campaigning through videos on social media by involving minors.
