Kaesang Restores Assessment To The Community Regarding Gibran's Pressure To Resign From The Mayor Of Solo

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep said all assessments returned to the public regarding the polemic whether or not the vice presidential candidate number 02 Gibran Rakabuming Raka was required to resign as Mayor of Solo because he was busy undergoing the 2024 presidential election campaign.

"I think I'm back in the community, how do you want Mas Gibran to remain mayor now or asked to resign," said Kaesang in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, quoted from Antara, Sunday, January 21.

Kaesang visited Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sunday, accompanied by the Secretary General of the PSI DPP, Raja Juli Antoni, a candidate for the Indonesian House of Representatives from PSI, Doadibadai Hollo, and PSI DPP ranks to attend the friendship with the Giring Eight Center (G8C) volunteer organs and meet Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

Kaesang, who is the younger brother of Gibran, assessed that Gibran's request to resign was a common thing that arose in the midst of heating up the current political dynamics.

According to him, as long as Gibran can carry out his duties as Mayor of Solo even though he is a vice presidential candidate, the people of Solo who have the right to assess whether or not Gibran should resign as mayor.

"It's usually a political dynamic, right," said Kaesang.

Previously, the chairman of the PDI-P faction of the Surakarta City DPRD YF Sukasno asked Gibran to resign from his position as mayor of Surakarta.

The eldest son of President Joko Widodo is considered not optimal in working as mayor, one of which is because he often takes time off for campaigns.

However, Sukasno realized that there was no regulation that required Gibran to resign because the latest regulations stated that regional officials running as presidential or vice presidential candidates did not have to resign.

"In my opinion, several times taking leave has caused disruption to government activities. So, in my opinion, it is better for Mas Wali (Gibran) to resign, even though the rules are not required to resign," said Sukasno.
