Prime Minister Netanyahu Calls The Idea Of A Palestinian Country Contrary To Israel's Security

JAKARTA - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday the idea of forming a Palestinian state would conflict with Israel's security.

"In any future regulation... Israel needs security control across the western region of Jordan. This goes against the idea of sovereignty (Palestinian). What can you do?" he told a news conference in Tel Aviv, when asked about the report, he opposed Israel's idea of sovereignty to US officials., reported CNN January 19.

It is known, many countries, including the United States, are calling for the creation of a Palestinian state. One of the reasons is to prevent the recurrence of violence, as well as to obtain security guarantees for Israel in the region.

"This conflict is not about the absence of a (Palestinian) state, but about the existence of a country, a Jewish state," said PM Netanyahu.

The Israeli prime minister claimed at a news conference that Israeli politicians who asked him to step down basically asked for the creation of a Palestinian state.

"Those who spoke about the day after Netanyahu actually spoke about the formation of a Palestinian state," he said. An Israeli prime minister should "be able to say no to our friends," said PM Netanyahu.

Separately, PM Netanyahu's senior adviser, Mark Regev, said Israel must have security controls.

"Israel must have security controls that can fully limit the implementation of Palestinian sovereignty," Regev said.

"And if Palestinians really want to move forward with Israel, they must be willing to understand those concerns. That is a legitimate concern," he added.
