LPPOM MUI Emphasizes Election Identification Must Be Halal Certified

JAKARTA - Director of the Institute for Food, Medicine and Cosmetic Studies (LPPOM) of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Muti Arintawati emphasized that the ink used for voting during general elections (elections) must be certified halal.

"Soon the election, now it must be ensured that the ink used can still penetrate the water so that it is safe when someone will have ablution," said Muti as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, January 18.

Muti said the halal certificate was one of the documents when the ink producer submitted a tender to the General Elections Commission (KPU). Submission of halal certification for ink is submitted by business actors instead of halal examination institutions (LPH).

According to him, there are two things that must be ensured before the ink is used during the election.

First, ink materials must be ensured to be free from unclean elements. Second, the ink to be used must penetrate the water.

To ensure that the ink penetrates the water, laboratory tests and LPPOM MUI have carried out ink checks from elections to elections are needed.

"So for ink certification, one of them must be proven that the provisions can penetrate the water," he said.

Muti stated that laboratory tests are one of the important things in supporting the halal inspection process of a product.

According to him, there are three principles applied in halal certification. First, ensure that all materials used in the production process are halal. Second, ensure that there is no contamination of illicit materials against products originating from production equipment, workers, and the production environment.

Third, ensure that the halal production process can run continuously.
