Dewas Reveals Extortion Of KPK Detention Center: Once Charge Powerbank Asked To Pay Rp200-300 Thousand

JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed illegal levies (extortion) at the KPK Detention Center (Rutan) Merah Putih Branch not only for smuggling cellphones but also when charging power banks.

This was conveyed by KPK Supervisory Board member Albertina Ho after holding a trial for alleged ethical violations related to extortion at the KPK Detention Center behind closed doors today. He said prisoners had to pay Rp200-300 thousand per one time to charge the power bank they brought.

"The HP needs power, there is a power bank, you have to pay for the power bank," Albertina Ho told reporters, Thursday, January 18.

Then to smuggle cellphones, prisoners in detention must pay up to millions of rupiah. Payments are made to the appointed coordinator.

"How much is it (to smuggle cellphones, ed), Rp10-20 million, as long as he uses the cellphone, but later there will be a monthly payment," explained Albertina.

In addition, Albertina also said that the money was given by detainees so that they could put food into the KPK detention center outside the proper schedule.

Previously reported, the KPK Council said that alleged ethical violations related to extortion in detention centers dragged 93 people. The number quoted from the detainees for additional facilities reached Rp6.1 billion.

This figure was obtained after the KPK Council examined 169 people consisting of 27 people who were former KPK detainees and 137 people were employees who had worked at the KPK Detention Center. In addition, there are also 65 proofs of documents to depositing money of various value ranging from Rp. 1 million to Rp. 504 million.
