Medan District Court Judge Sentenced To Life In Courier 36.7 Kilograms Of Shabu

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court sentenced the defendant Abdurrahman to life in the case as a courier for narcotics of the type of methamphetamine with a gross weight of 36.7 kilograms or 36,756.7 grams.

"The defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment," said Chief Judge Abdul Hadi Nasution in a verdict at the Medan District Court as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 17.

Abdul Hadi said the panel of judges stated that the defendant Abdurahman was legally and convincingly proven and guilty of receiving non-plants with methamphetamine that exceeded five grams, namely a gross weight of 36.7 kilograms or 36,756.7 grams in Aceh.

He continued that the defendant violated Article 114 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics.

"The aggravating thing is that the defendant's actions do not support the government's program in eradicating illicit trafficking and narcotics abuse," he said.

In addition, the defendant's actions in the field of narcotics are an extraordinary crime.

"Things that relieve the defendant's actions have not been found," said Abdul Hadi.

After reading the verdict, the panel of judges gave the public prosecutor, defendants and legal advisors, whether to accept or appeal the decision.

The verdict from the panel of judges was lighter than the demands of the Prosecutor of the Belawan District Attorney Franciskawati Naggolan with the death penalty for the defendant Abdurrahman.

The indictment revealed that on March 9, 2023, personnel from the Belawan Lantamal 1 Intelligence team received information from the public about the smuggling of methamphetamine from Thailand to Pangkalan Susu, North Sumatra.

Then on March 10, 2023, the team conducted an in-depth investigation which was estimated through the waters of the Kuala or coastal route around North Aceh, Lhoukseumawe to East Aceh.

Furthermore, the Intelligence Dantim Lantamal I Belawan reported to the top Command so that the KRI Tjitadi -381 who was in Belawan ordered to carry out insulation around the waters of North Aceh, Lhoukseumawe, parts of East Aceh.

The Belawan Lantamal I Intelligence Team headed to Lhokseumawe and coordinated with Lhoukseumawe Naval Intelligence personnel about the alleged entry of drugs.

Then the personnel at Ujong Batee Beach, Ujung Blang, Aceh saw a fishing boat approaching the beach with evidence in the form of 36 packs of crystal methamphetamine.

From the results of the development, it was found that the information that the goods would be received in the North Aceh Lhoksukon area was addressed to the defendant Abdurrahman and an arrest was made.

The defendant admitted that he was ordered by Murtala (DPO) or Wak G to take the evidence. Then met in Idi, Aceh. From a short message, the defendant has been given Rp5 million for transportation costs.
