West Java Governor Bey Affirms Dog Trading For Illegal Consumption

BANDUNG - Acting Governor of West Java Beyxi Machmudin emphasized that the trade in dogs for consumption, both in West Java and in sale outside the province, is illegal.

According to him, the consumption of dog meat is not in accordance with Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning food.

"If the meat returns to the Food Act. Dogs do not include food, so it is illegal," said Bey when responding to the West Java issue of producing dogs for consumption for a number of provinces, at Gedung Sate, Bandung, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 16.

However, Bey said West Java had been selling dogs outside the province, but not for consumption, but for hunting purposes.

"It must be straightened out first, that it is not dog meat. But dog hunting. Here it is indeed a hunting dog and only sent to West Sumatra," he said.

Bey said the smuggling of dogs for consumption was illegal and had become a crime, including the case in Central Java recently.

"We also need input from the public, if there is such a thing, report it to us, because legally it cannot be justified," he said.

As previously reported, as many as five suspects were tortured by 226 dogs arrested by the Semarang Police, some time ago.

The suspect admitted that he had been in the illegal dog sales business for 10 years.
