KPK Council Receives 67 Public Complaints Regarding Alleged Ethical Violations During 2023

JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board (Dewas) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) submitted its performance report during 2023 today, Monday, January 15. As a result, there were 67 public complaints related to alleged ethical violations that came in.

Chairman of the KPK Council, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, confirmed that the incoming report was then followed up. He detailed that apart from reports related to ethical violations, there were also unrelated things.

"Throughout 2023, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Council has received complaints from the public regarding the ethics of 67 reports and those that are not related to ethics (obtained, red) 82 reports", said Tumpak at a press conference at the ACLC KPK Building, Rasuna Said, Jakarta, Monday, January 15.

In addition, KPK Council Member Albertina Ho said that out of a total of 67 reports, there were two of them old cases or carry-over 2022. He also detailed that there were 18 identical complaints.

"So for one act there are several complaints," said Albertina.

Then from the incoming reports, 40 reports were made of the results of the analysis. Albertina said, there were 31 complaints which were then clarified, including the question of illegal levies (extortion) at the KPK Detention Center (Rutan).

"A clarification has been made against 420 people who complained in 2023 and nine people for the 2022 default complaint," explained the former judge.

As a result, there was a preliminary examination which then led to three ethical decisions. The details are that one severe sanction is terminated, one is moderate, and one is declared unproven.

For those who are given severe sanctions are Firli Bahuri's ethical violations while serving as Chairman of the KPK. He violated because he met with the litigants, namely former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

He was later sentenced to be asked to resign from his position. Meanwhile, those who were declared to have violated the moderate sanctions were employees with the initials M.

Then the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Johanis Tanak was declared not to have violated even though he had been reported for communicating with the litigants of the Acting Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Idris Froyoto Siites.

"This is what I said, three trials have been held and that's the verdict," he concluded.
