JAKARTA - Social media activist, Denny Siregar, responded to the case of four officers from the Djasmen Saragih General Hospital, Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, who were named by the police as suspects for religious blasphemy after bathing the bodies of women with COVID-19 patients.

Through his Twitter account, @Dennysiregar7, he feels sorry for those who receive this kind of treatment.

In his upload, he shared several photos showing a demonstration at Pematang Siantar which asked the four medical personnel to be tried immediately.

"The demonstration at Pematang Siantar so that forensic officers who bathe the bodies of women who have been infected with Covid will immediately be tried under the blasphemy article. It's a pity for the health workers to be pressured like this without legal protection, even though they are on duty”, said Denny Siregar as quoted by VOI, Tuesday, February 23.

Denny hopes that the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD can immediately intervene in solving the case.

"Hopefully Mr. Mohmahfudmd can intervene", said Denny Siregar marking Mahfud MD's Twitter.

Previously it was reported that four officers from the Djasmen Saragih General Hospital, Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, were named as suspects. The four of them are suspected of committing religious blasphemy.

This case started with Fauzi Munthe, a resident of Serbelawan, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra. He reported to the police because he did not accept his wife, Zakiah (50), who died at the Djasamen Saragih Regional Hospital, Sunday, September 20, 2020, being bathed by 4 male hospital employees.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Siantar, AKP Edi Sukamto said that this case has been submitted to the AGO.

"It has been transferred to the prosecutor's office", said Edi to reporters.

The four male nurses are DAAY, ESPS, RS, and REP, subject to Article 156 letter a junto Article 55 paragraph 1 concerning Blasphemy with the threat of a sentence of 5 years in prison.

Edi said the reason his party was wearing it was because of the request from the victim's report.

"Yes, it was the report (from the victim's family). It was not the Criminal Investigation Unit that was made", he said.

This case came to the attention of Pematang Siantar last September. At that time, Fauzi protested. He protested that the process of washing the body which was not by Islamic law was recorded.

"(The one who bathed) two Muslims and two Christians", explained Fauzi in the circulating video.
