Promises Similar To Ganjar-Mahfud, Anies Wants To Remove The Age Limit For Work Applicants

Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan, promised to remove the age limit as a requirement for job applicants if elected as President in 2024.

This promise is similar to what was expressed by the candidate for vice president number 3, Mahfud MD. Mahfud previously promised that he and the presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo would remove the age limit for job applicants if they grabbed the 2024 presidential election.

"We do not agree with the age restrictions (employees). God willing, we will change the rules, so that the state and private sector will have the same rules," said Anies at Anies' Desak event in Ambon, Maluku, Monday, January 15.

Anies assessed that the age limit for job applicants is discrimination for people who want to get jobs according to their wishes. In fact, there are rules that emphasize the right to get jobs without discrimination.

"This has rules, the Employment Law says that every worker over the age of 18, is entitled to work without discrimination. That is what we will apply," said Anies.

On the other hand, Anies also highlighted other discrimination in the job recruitment process, namely the selection of prospective workers taking into account aspects of gender, ethnicity, and belief. According to Anies, such phenomena should no longer occur.

"We must not have a blacklist or prohibition on certain ethnic groups, prohibiting those who wear clothes according to their beliefs. It is not allowed. That is their belief, it is their right," said Anies.

"There should be no (rules) for example not to wear headscarves. Anyone has the same opportunity. There should be no such prohibitions. It is also not allowed to prioritize certain tribes. This Republic is the same for all," he continued.

Previously, Mahfud MD said that he and Ganjar Pranowo promised to remove the age limit for job applicants if they were elected to win the 2024 presidential election.

Mahfud stated this after visiting Darut Tauhid Canga'an Bangil Islamic Boarding School in Pasuruan Regency, East Java, Friday, to respond to a job vacancy at a bank that sets a maximum age limit for 24-year-old applicants.

"If it is only a ministerial decision or maybe the decision of the governor of BI (Bank Indonesia), it will be easier for the government to invite changes. It's just a revision of the law (UU) or something," Mahfud said on Friday, January 12.
