PONTIANAK - The Regional Police of Dwikora Port Pontianak, Pontianak Class I Quarantine Center, and West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA), thwarted efforts to send various protected bird species to Java by sea transportation.

"As soon as we received information that there would be a shipment of protected birds, we together with the Pontianak Class I Quarantine Center and the West Kalimantan BKSDA conducted a sweep and succeeded in securing 110 birds ready to be sent to Java by sea transportation," said Head of Police for the Dwikora Port Area, Pontianak Iptu Wendi Sulistiono, as reported by Antara. , Monday, February 22.

The mode used by the perpetrators was to put hundreds of birds in a box, then put them in a fruit basket and then put them back in a fuso type truck destined for Java Island using sea transportation.

Details of the types of birds that were secured were 1 cotton bird, then 102 kacer birds, 4 green cucak birds, and 2 lovebird birds.

The protected animals are in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 106 of 2018, he also said. "We are still investigating fuso truck owners, drivers and others, because until now the owner has not been known," he said.

The Coordinator of Enforcement of the Class I Quarantine Center of Pontianak, Joko Supriatno, stated that the delivery or transportation of the birds was carried out illegally, because without attaching documents from the Class I Pontianak Quarantine Center and the West Kalimantan BKSDA.

"Because the shipment of protected animals or birds is without documents, it will be confiscated and then released to their natural habitat by the West Kalimantan BKSDA," he said.

Meanwhile, the legal process and the next steps were submitted to the Police for the Dwikora Port Area of Pontianak.
