Brothers And Sisters Become Suspects Of Mass Carok Killing 4 People In Bangkalan

The Bangkalan Resort Police (Polres) in East Java (Jatim) named brothers as suspects in the mass carok case that occurred in Bumianyar Village, Tanjung Bumi District.

"The two people we arrested and named as suspects are residents of Buminayar Village, Tanjung Bumi District, Bangkalan," said Bangkalan Police Chief AKBP Febri Isman Jaya in a press statement submitted to the media in Bangkalan, East Java, Sunday, January 14, confiscated by Antara.

The mass carok case that occurred on Friday, January 12, 2024, left four people dead. Each with the initials MTJ, MTD, NJ and HF and all of them are one family.

Three of the victims were residents of Larangan Timur Village, Tanjung Bumi District and 1 Bumi Anyar resident.

"Today we are carrying out a case of a fight with sharp weapons on Bumi Anyar, the incident was caught on video by residents and was viral on social media, it happened on January 12", said Febri.

The police chief said that the case of a fight using a sharp weapon type Celsius began at around 16.30 WIB when the suspect HB walked to the tahlilan place in his village.

At the same time, MTJ and his colleagues passed by riding motorbikes.

Seeing MTJ and his colleagues passing by, the suspect HB reprimanded him with the intention of greeting him. However, the greeting made MTJ not accept it, then got off the motorbike and approached the suspect.

"They were involved in an argument that led to persecution at HB. It didn't end there, MTJ was dissatisfied after throwing a blow, challenging HB to duel," said Febri.

Receiving the duel challenge, the suspect HB immediately rushed home to take his knife. He also invited his younger brother to face the duel challenges of MTJ and his group.

"They both said goodbye to their parents, their parents were prohibited but they still wanted to fight the duel challenge and rushed to the location of the quarrel," said Febri.

Arriving at the location, HB and HW, who had been careless about the duel challenges, immediately went blind with a knife in their hands. Gun fighting had occurred, until finally 4 people made him die covered in blood.

"The suspect HB, although his younger brother's motorbike had not stopped, jumped to attack his opponent blindly. A 2 vs 4 duel broke out and killed 4 people. From the suspect's confession, there were more than 6 people in the location, some fled to see their colleagues had fallen," concluded Febri.

For his actions, the 2 brothers were charged with Article 340 of the Criminal Code and or Article 338 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum threat of 15 years in prison.

The police chief said that until now his party has continued to tighten security in the two villages, because according to the rumors, there has been an attempt to take revenge by each family of both parties.

"We also take a persuasive approach to community leaders there to participate in preventing further conflicts there," said the police chief.
