Minister Of Communication And Information Claims Hoax Content Regarding The 2024 Election Decreased Compared To 2019

Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said the hoax content circulating during the 2024 election campaign was not as much as before in 2019.

During the November 28, 2023 campaign until January 11, 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information has taken down 51 content and published 175 clarifications related to hoaxes regarding elections. Even though the number of election hoax content this year is not as much as 2019, Budi Arie emphasized, fake news remains a threat to Indonesian democracy. "This number is a reminder for all of us that hoaxes still threaten our democracy, even though data (cumulatively) has decreased considerably compared to 2019," he said in an official statement, Sunday, January 14.Kemenkominfo, according to Budi Arie, played a major role in disseminating information about elections and keeping digital spaces in order for democracy to remain quality. This effort was strengthened through cooperation with election organizers, namely, the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu). "In addition to carrying out efforts to tackle content and digital literacy, we are working with KPU and Bawaslu as a form of support for election administration," he said. Budi Arie revealed, the Ministry of Communication and Information has also signed a number of memorandums of understanding (Memorandum of Understanding/MoU) related to the use of information services. One of them is such as the implementation and supervision of election operations through the use of information technology and communication.

"In addition, a cooperation agreement is carried out between the Directorate General of Aptika Kominfo and Bawaslu and DKPP (Ection Organizers Honorary Board) regarding the supervision of the election," he said. "Through the use of information technology and maintenance and the use of electronic systems by providing guidance and code of ethics," added Budi Arie.
