Mahfud MD: Elections Are Not Fun, But Prevent Bad People From Powering

The candidate for vice president number 3 Mahfud MD said that the general election or election is not just fun, but preventing bad people from becoming in power.

"There is no such good person, relatively good, but if in the election it is not to choose a good person, the election is to avoid bad people from becoming leaders. Weighing it yourself. Now that is actually a special message of philosophy from the existence of elections, not just fun," he said at an event entitled "Bedah Idea & Vision Candidate for National Leaders" at Hasanuddin University, Makassar City, South Sulawesi, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, January 13.

Mahfud hopes that the public will pay close attention to every pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates that must be chosen, in accordance with the whispers of conscience and the values of truth.

"What I always emphasize is, you choose with your conscience. This is an option to risk Indonesia's future, choose what you think is good for presidential and vice presidential candidates," he said.

According to him, currently there are many phenomena of indirect pressure, where voters are given assistance with the condition that they choose certain candidates.

"Well, if it's difficult to avoid, it's okay. But when you vote later, choose according to our conscience. Because of this, if people choose not to obey the conscience in the Koran, it is mentioned that people are like animals, they don't deserve to be human beings," he said.

Mahfud also asked the public, especially young people, to really study the vision and mission of each candidate pair and see their track record.

He gave an example, such as a vision regarding law enforcement. Mahfud asked the public to assess how the track record of the candidate pair was in enforcing the law while serving previously.

"How is his life journey? Enforce the law or violate the law? The vision was written, but he himself really enforced the law or not," he said.
