PADANG - The Office of the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) together with the local provincial Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) carried out a breakthrough by launching a madrasah waqf program as well as waqf pilgrims and Umrah.

"This is an extraordinary breakthrough in empowering the potential of waqf in West Sumatra," said Head of the West Sumatra Provincial Ministry of Religion Mahyudin in Padang, Saturday.

He said the madrasah waqf program as well as Hajj and Umrah waqf were present for me. BWIngembangkan and advancing waqf in Minang.

This, he said, was in line with the national waqf program, namely One Waqf for Indonesia.

The main goal of the madrasah waqf movement as well as waqf for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, he said, is to advance the economy, improve the quality of life and quality of education in West Sumatra Province.

"We hope that the birth of these waqf programs can increase waqf literacy in West Sumatra," he said.

He hopes that the management of the potential and benefits of waqf assets can help the community's economy, including improving the quality of education in the province.

The chairman of the West Sumatra BWI, Japeri, said that the madrasah waqf will be collected once a week, where every Monday the madrasas collect waqf according to their intention and the amount is not determined.

Japeri, who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Padang City, said the basic principle of waqf funds is that the capital should not be reduced.

For this reason, he said, waqf funds will be managed productively through bank terms, the real sector, and productive waqf locations.

The results of the productive waqf will be distributed back to students in the form of scholarships.

This, he said, was an effort to improve the quality of education in West Sumatra, especially in madrasas.

He hopes that the quality of education that excels through the waqf movement can be realized.

West Sumatra BWI Secretary Yufrizal said that to run the Hajj and Umrah waqf programs, the first step was to socialize to all deposit recipient banks (BPS) for Hajj costs.

"We urge BPS to socialize the importance of literacy in strengthening waqf to pilgrims who will pay for the cost of the pilgrimage. Then the process of collecting waqf is carried out by the bank receiving the deposit," he said.
