BMKG: Beware Of Rob Flood Potential During The New Moon Phase Phenomenon

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to be alert and alert for potential coastal flooding (rob) in line with the phenomenon of the new moon phase on January 11, 2024 which can increase the maximum tide height.

"The public is advised to always be vigilant and alert to anticipate the impact of the maximum tide of sea water," said Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center, Eko Prasetyo, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 10.

He said the potential for tidal flooding varies in time (days and hours) in each region, which in general has an impact on community activities around ports and coasts, such as loading and unloading activities at ports, activities in coastal settlements, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries activities.

He stated that based on water level data monitoring and tidal predictions, tidal flooding has the potential to occur in several coastal areas of Indonesia.

Some of these coastal areas include the coastal coast of North Sumatra, namely on the coast of Belawan on January 9-16, 2024, the coast of West Sumatra (pesisir Kota Padang, January 10-12), the coast of Lampung (pesir Teluk Utara Lampung and Pesisir Teluk Bandar Lampung, 11-15 January).

Then, the coast of the Riau Islands (pesisir Tanjung Balai Karimun, Pesisir Batu Ampar, Selat Kijang, Pesisir Tanjung Uban, Pesisir Dabo Singkep on January 12-16), coastal West Kalimantan (pesir Kendawangan and coastal Pontianak, January 10-15), coastal East Kalimantan (pesisir Balikpapan, January 11), north coast of Jakarta (8-11 January), coastal Central Java (Pekalongan, Semarang, and Demak 13-19 January).

Furthermore, the coast of East Java (Labuhan Surabaya, coastal Gresik, Lamongan, and Tuban, Pasuruan, Sidoarjo, Probolinggo, South Bangkalan, Kuanyar, Sampang, Kreseh, Pamekasan, and Sumenep on January 9-13), the coast of NTT (pesisir Pulau Flores part north-Alor Island, northern Sumba Island, Timor Island-Pulau Rote on January 11-14).

Pesisir Sulawesi Utara, (pesisir utara hingga timur Kepulauan Sangihe, pesisir utara hingga timur Kepulauan Talaud, pesisir timur Kepulauan Sitaro-Likupang, pesisir Bitung pada 15-17 Januari 2024), pesisir Maluku Utara (pesisir Buli, Morotai, Loloda, Gebe, Talibu Utara, 11-13 Januari), dan pesisir Papua, Merauke (Distrik Tabonji, Waan, Kimaam, Naukenjerai pada 12-18 Januari).
