Vice President Asks Voters Who Are Far From TPS To Take Care Of Moving Votes

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin reminded people who live far from polling stations (TPS) as long as they can immediately take care of or submit to move the location of the election, so that they can exercise voting rights in the election.

"I hope the community is proactive and also of course community leaders can also disseminate it, and there is still a week. This one week, I ask the public to take advantage of it (take care of the transfer documents) and don't vote," said the Vice President on the sidelines of a working visit in Yogyakarta as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9.

The vice president explained that the government opens opportunities for voters who are already registered in the Permanent Voter List (DPT) to apply for a move to choose or move polling stations if on D day the voting is in a place that does not match the ID card address.

This provision is regulated through the General Election Commission (KPU) Regulation Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Preparation of Voters Lists in the Implementation of General Elections and Voter Data Information Systems.

These regulations are a solution for migrants or those who do not live in their area of origin, considering that the number is certainly spread in various regions in Indonesia.

As stipulated, the deadline for managing the transfer form to choose (A5) is January 15, 2024. However, this government policy still needs to be balanced with the enthusiasm of the community to use the opportunity to move to vote.

The Vice President explained that public participation in the general election (election) is very important. First, said the Vice President, so that the aspirations of the people are truly channeled.

"In his heart he chooses A, but he doesn't vote. The candidate A loses, later he will regret it, why don't I choose. So don't vote," he said.

Second, said the Vice President, so that elections in the country are followed by an adequate number so that the results have legitimacy. According to him, it is not difficult to realize this, one of which is through the active role of the mass media.

"Therefore, I ask journalists too, the media will continue to disseminate this (the opportunity to move to vote). Hopefully, everyone can listen and everyone can vote," hoped the Vice President.

The Vice President stated that the government has taken a policy to make it easier for the public to choose and conduct massive socialization through various information channels, including social media. However, once again the Vice President emphasized that it all depends on the wishes of the community itself.

"Indeed, there must also be a desire from the community. So if you already know, actually, you should have taken steps," he said.
