Conflict Prone, 31 TPS In Aifat Maybrat Relocated To Kumurek

SORONG - Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of Southwest Papua Province Andarias Kambu said as many as 31 polling stations (TPS) in five districts in Aifat Raya will be relocated to Kumurek, the capital of Maybrat Regency.

The chairman of the KPU assessed that Aifat Raya is an area that is categorized as prone to conflict, so it has the potential to interfere with the 2024 General Election process in the region.

"In anticipation of this, we will relocate the 31 polling stations to a safe place so that people can channel their voting rights properly," said the Chairman of the Southwest Papua KPU in Sorong as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 9.

Kumurek, he said, is the only area that is considered safe to relocate 31 polling stations so that people can freely channel their voices.

Because, he said, people in five districts in Aifat Raya had long fled and left the villages in the five districts and live in Kumurkek.

"We have conveyed this condition to the government to provide security support in Maybrat Regency during the voting process," said Andarias.

He ensured that with the relocation of 31 polling stations in five districts in the Aifat Raya area, of course more than three thousand voters would be free to channel political rights freely and support the increasing number of voters' participation.
