Police Name 5 Suspects For Sending Hundreds Of Dogs To Consume In Semarang

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Semarang Polrestabes, Central Java, managed to secure a truck carrying hundreds of dogs heading for Solo, Sunday, January 7, 2024 (ANTARA).

SemarANG - Satreskrim Polrestabes Semarang named five suspects, related to the delivery of hundreds of illegal dogs using trucks passing at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang on Saturday.

Semarang Police Chief Kombes Pol Irwan Anwar said of the five suspects, officers named one of the main suspects with the initials DH who is a resident of Gemolong Sragen

"In this case of dog torture, we have named five suspects, with the main suspects with the initials DH and four others who participated in helping. DH ordered Gemolong residents of Sragen who had made several deliveries," said Irwan.

Furthermore, Irwan revealed that suspect DH in December 2023 had made two deliveries. "These suspects left the toll road in Kalikangkung and were intercepted because of traffic jams. It seems that he came out through Brebes. Then the viral ones were also them," he explained.

From the information obtained, the dog is currently obtained from Subang. Therefore, investigators must conduct further investigations to the location.

Then during yesterday's arrest, the suspect confirmed the existence of a travel certificate from the police and UPTD.

"Temporary confirmation but not registered is a false possibility. So to ensure that, the investigation will go to Subang, including where he got the dogs, how to do it," he said.

Meanwhile, the dog that was rescued was placed in a dog shelter in Semarang and assisted in a temporary shelter.

"There were 12 who died in the autopsy and the body parts that died would be sent by Unair. Those who died had been deposited in the Semarang dog shelter," he added.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 89 in conjunction with Article 66 letter a paragraph (1) of Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Animal Husbandry and Health as stated in amendments to Law Number 18 of 2009 in conjunction with Article 302 of the Criminal Code. In addition, Article 204 of the Criminal Code carries a threat of 15 years in prison.

"In Article 89 it is prohibited to bring or move animals from one region to another, with a threat of 5 years," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Animal Hope Shelter Indonesia, Christian Joshua Pale, said that his party was working with doctors and the Livestock Service and animal clinics to carry out general checks ups. It turned out that it was found that there were indications of heart worms that were dangerous for humans.

"We are collaborating with several doctors from the Livestock Service and Animal Clinic to carry out a general check-up. It is proven that three dogs that are positive for heart worms can be transmitted to humans, whether they want to be consumed or through mosquitoes or ticks," said Christ.

He also questioned that the suspects who were detained by the police had a travel document. Semarang Police are now also investigating the documents brought by the perpetrators.

"What I'm surprised about is being able to get out the street for 226 dogs. There is no evidence of a healthy dog, meaning a travel certificate needs to be questioned," he said.

Of the 226 dogs that were secured from the perpetrator's truck, 11 were dead. Christ explained that an autopsy was carried out and two were found to have heart worms. "Autopsy of two dogs with heart worms," concluded Chris.
