Flooded Rail, PT. KAI Again Canceled Jakarta Operational Region 1 Train Departure Today

JAKARTA - PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has canceled all long-distance train trips from Gambir Station and Pasar Senen Station today. Trip cancellations also happened yesterday.

Head of Public Relations of PT. KAI Operational Area 1 Jakarta Eva Chairunisa said the cancellation of train trips was due to extreme weather in several areas of the trip. As a result, there are rails that are flooded.

In the Operational Area 1 of Jakarta area, the impact of extreme weather occurs on the road plot between Kedunggedeh-Lemah Abang Station Km 55 + 100 to KM 53 + 600.

This location has been inundated since Sunday, February 21, 2021, with a water level of up to 150 centimeters above the railhead.

"Taking safety into consideration, the condition of the track which was affected by the flood has not been able to be traversed for train travel, so on Monday, February 22, 2021, all Long-Distance Train trips from Gambir Station and Pasar Senen Station were canceled again," Eva said in her statement, Monday, 22 February.

Not only did the rail line flooded, but the flood also caused the ballast stone foundation on the rail to be eroded by water due to the current. Thus, it takes time for the process of repairing railroad infrastructure.

"PT. KAI Operational Area 1 Jakarta would like to apologize to all train service users due to extreme weather, which affected the infrastructure and operational conditions of the train," said Eva.

Currently, Eva admitted that the PT. KAI Operational Area 1 Jakarta team is still making efforts to repair the infrastructure that was affected by the flood. Improvements were made in collaboration with various parties.

In total, 15 trains were canceled from the Operational Area 1 Jakarta area. 7 trains from Pasar Senen Station and 8 trains from Gambir Station.

In addition to the cancellation of the Long Distance train trips, all trips for Cikarang-Purwakarta (Roundtrip) local trains which operate across this route were also canceled.

"For train customers who already have a ticket for departure on February 22, 2021, from Gambir and Pasar Senen, they can cancel their tickets for up to 30 days, with a 100 percent return through the cancellation counter at the station," said Eva.
