BMKG Asks The Public To Be Alert To The Potential For Storm Rain

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to people in several areas to be aware of the potential for thunderstorms today, Sunday, January 7. Especially for Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java.

In addition to these areas, based on the official BMKG website in Jakarta, Sunday, areas that must also be aware of the potential for thunderstorms are Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Lampung.

Then, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku and West Papua must also be aware of the potential for thunderstorms.

Hurricanes have occurred in line with Indonesia entering extreme weather since January 3, 2024 and are expected to last until January 10, 2024, especially for a number of areas.

The Winter Asian Monsoon, which is associated as the westerly wind season, is one of the factors that trigger extreme weather in some areas.

The Asian Monsoon has begun to show its impact on the potential for increasing the mass of wet air around Indonesia so that the growth of rain clouds in the January period is predicted to be quite intense.

In addition, the activity of Madden Jullian Oscillation (MJO) has begun to enter Indonesian territory so that it indirectly triggers an increase in the potential for moderate to heavy rain in several areas.

"This condition is reinforced by Rossby wave activity in the western part of Indonesia and it will last for the next five days," said BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto.

Another factor of other dynamics that also strengthens this potential is the formation of wind confluence patterns and wind turns around Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan.
