Fishermen In NTB Asked To Beware Of High Waves Up To 4 Meters

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to fishermen and residents to remain alert to the potential for high waves that can reach four meters in the waters of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"Be aware of high waves in the NTB waters until January 10, 2024," said Head of Zaenuddin Abdul Majid Lombok Station, Satria Topan Primadi, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, January 6.

The BMKG stated the potential for sea wave heights to reach two meters or more in the southern part of the Bali Strait, the Badung Strait, the southern part of the Lombok Strait, the southern part of the Alas Strait, and the southern Indian Ocean Bali-NTB on January 6-8, 2024.

"The potential for high waves of 2.5 to four meters is predicted to occur in the southern part of the Lombok Strait and the southern Indian Ocean of NTB on January 9-10, 2024," he said.

He said that the weather conditions in general were cloudy, there was the potential for uneven light rain.

The dominant wind blows from the north - south at a speed of 27 knots.

"Stay alert to the potential for high waves, so that there are no marine accidents that can endanger safety," he said.

The BMKG mentions wind conditions and sea waves that are at high risk of sailing safety, namely to fishing boats if the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height.

In addition, residents are advised to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the NTB region in the rainy season in early 2024.

"Be aware of the impact of disasters that can be caused when heavy rains occur accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the NTB region," said Satria Topan Primadi.
