KPU Asks Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates Not To Use Acronyms And Foreign Terms During Debate

The General Election Commission (KPU) has asked each team to be successful so that the presidential-vice presidential candidate pairs no longer use acronyms or abbreviations and foreign terms during the presidential election debate, including in the third debate held on Sunday (7/1).

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari has advised the candidate pairs to immediately explain if they are forced to use abbreviations or foreign terms that are not familiar so that the debate can run effectively.

"So that the candidate who will argue will present an extension if there is an abbreviation, or a term that is not generally popularly used so that the debate is effective, no longer adding to the question what stands for," said Hasyim, Friday, January 6.

Hasyim hopes that the presidential candidates who will argue later can provide answers or ask questions that are easily understood by each other.

KPU member August Mellaz explained that his party had agreed that the moderator should also carry out its function as an affirmation if later there is an acronym use or foreign term during the debate without reducing the predetermined time limit.

"But if that happens, it is agreed that the moderator will carry out its function to emphasize whether it is related to the acronym or the term without reducing the time of each candidate during the debate, it is clear," explained Mellaz.

He said the agreement was one of the results of the evaluation of the KPU together with the candidate pair and television stations of the organizers regarding the second presidential election debate that brought together the vice presidential candidates on Friday (22/12/2023).

The third presidential election debate will be held at Istora Senayan on January 7, 2024 and broadcast on Garuda TV and the MNC Group network, namely MNC TV, RCTI, Global TV, and iNews TV starting at 19.00 WIB.

The debate, which will bring together the presidential candidates for the second time, raises the theme of defense, security, international relations, globalization, geopolitical and foreign politics.
