SUKABUMI - Leakage of dams for sorghum cultivation in Kertajaya Village, Cimelati Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Monday January 1, caused a number of houses, fish ponds, and agricultural land in Ciengang Village to be flooded with an altitude of about 30-50 cm. Based on the information collected, this flood was triggered by heavy rainfall throughout the day in several areas in Sukabumi Regency, especially in Simpenan District. There were no reports of casualties due to this flood. The suspicion arose that the leakage of the sorghum cultivation dam in Cimelati Village, RT 016/RW 04, Kertajaya Village, Simpenan District, was due to the significant increase in the volume of water. As a result of the dam leakage, water then entered the neighboring village, namely Kampung Ciengang, and submerged two houses, six fish ponds belonging to residents, as well as agricultural land, most of which were already ready to harvest. Spokesperson of the Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sandra Fitria said that officers were conducting data collection and providing assistance to affected residents.

"We are still conducting an assessment to calculate the losses suffered by residents affected by this flood. The losses are estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah, including the failure to harvest fish ponds and the damage to agricultural land that is ready to harvest," Sandra said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 2. He added that there were 12 families affected by this flood, with details of two families inundated with floods, six families experiencing failed fishing pond harvest, and four families own damaged agricultural land.
